Flying or Driving Soon?
It usually starts the same way - you’re excited for the trip, bags are packed, playlist is ready… and then a few hours into the drive or flight, your body starts to remind you it’s been sitting way too long.
Your low back feels tight, your hips start to lock up, your neck gets stiff from looking down at your phone or leaning into the seat… and by the time you arrive, you don’t feel nearly as good as you expected to.
Spring travel season is here - road trips, flights, tournaments, and long weekends away.
Sitting for hours compresses your spine, tightens hips, and leaves your neck stiff before the trip even starts.
Travel-friendly body tips:
Seat setup: Sit all the way back in your seat with your hips fully supported, feet flat on the ground, and place a small towel roll behind your low back to maintain its natural curve. This helps reduce strain and keeps your spine in a more neutral position.
Movement breaks: Try to stand, walk, or stretch every 60-90 minutes. Even a quick 2-3 minute reset can improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and keep your joints from locking up.
Thoracic rotations (great for flights or passenger seat): Sit tall, cross your arms over your chest, and slowly rotate your upper body to one side, then the other. Keep your hips facing forward and move through your mid-back. Do 8-10 reps each direction to keep your spine mobile and reduce stiffness.
Post-travel reset: Once you arrive, stand tall with your hands on your hips and gently lean backward into a standing back extension. Perform 8-10 slow reps to counteract all the forward sitting and decompress your spine.
Travel shouldn’t mean pain - just a little preparation goes a long way.
If you’ve got a trip coming up, now is a great time to get your body prepared so you can travel comfortably and actually enjoy it. And if you’re already feeling tight or off after a trip, getting adjusted can help reset your body and get you back to feeling your best.
