Spring Forward, Ache More?
Springing forward sounds harmless… but that one-hour time change can absolutely make your body feel “off”.
If you’ve felt a little foggy, stiff, more tired than usual, or even noticed your neck or back acting up this week - you’re not imagining it. The time change disrupts your circadian rhythm, which is your body’s internal clock that controls sleep, hormone balance, and nervous system regulation.
When that rhythm gets thrown off, your body can shift into a slightly stressed state. Muscles tend to stay tighter, joints feel stiffer, and old aches suddenly show up again - especially in the neck, shoulders, and low back.
The good news? Your nervous system is very adaptable. With a few small resets, you can help your body settle back into a rhythm for the week ahead.
Try these quick resets this week:
• Morning spinal wake-up: Before grabbing your phone, lie on your back and gently pull your knees to your chest. Rock side to side for 30–60 seconds to wake up the spine and loosen the lower back.
• Sunlight reset: Get outside within 30 minutes of waking if you can. Even 5–10 minutes of natural light helps signal to your brain that it’s time to be alert and helps reset your internal clock.
• Neck decompression: Sit tall, place one hand lightly on the top of your head, and gently side-bend your neck toward your shoulder. Hold 10 seconds per side for 3 rounds to release tension that builds during poor sleep.
• Get outside and get moving: A 20–30 minute walk is one of the best nervous system resets you can do after a time change. The combination of movement, fresh air, and daylight helps your body reestablish its natural rhythm.
• Slow exhale breathing: Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, then exhale slowly for 6–8 seconds. Longer exhales tell your nervous system it’s safe to relax. Try 5–8 breaths anytime you feel tired, wired, or tense.
It may take a few days for your body to fully adjust to the new time - and that’s completely normal. Be patient with yourself, move your body a little more this week, and prioritize sleep when you can.
And if you’re still feeling off over the next couple weeks, it may just mean your nervous system needs a little fine-tuning. That’s where we come in. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper communication between your brain and body - almost like hitting a neurologic reset button.
If you’re ready for a deeper reset, come in, get adjusted, and let’s get you back to feeling your best.
Here’s to a smoother, healthier week ahead.
